Jose Carlos Silva also known as Professor Maranhao
Professor Maranhao first began practicing capoeira in 1997 at the Grupo Liberdade de Capoeira group in Newark, NJ. Taught by the renowned Mestre Cigano, Professor Maranhao showed immense talent and diligence and so his capoeira game improved at a tremendous rate. In 2002, Professor Maranhao began instructing capoeira classes at Rutgers University. He brings the Rutgers students this beautiful and poetic martial art from its traditional Afro-Brazilian roots. He instructs Rutgers students on the more contemporary style of capoeira, inclusive of both 'Angola' and 'Regional' styles, and immerses them in Brazilian culture through traditional songs as well as dances such as Samba de Roda and Maculele.
He runs a school outside of Rutgers Capoeira. Please check out his website: http://www.capoeiramaranhao.com/
